An Open Letter to Austin Homeowners
We're a construction company that does solar. For several years I priced and built multi-million-dollar solar portfolios — municipalities, school districts, commercial operators — across the country. In late 2025, I refocused on my own community here in Austin. Solar was a career pivot from construction during the 2020 pandemic. It became the work, but the construction discipline never left.
But I also saw what was broken.
Many companies selling 25-year warranties won't be around in 5 years. They added overhead faster than they added customers. They cut deals with vendors for easy products at inflated prices and pitched them to you as "premium." They hired hungry salespeople, buried those commissions in your quote, and used financing structures that hid thousands in dealer fees. They told you they were covering it. They weren't — they just raised the price of your system.
We wrote up the math on each of those tactics in Solar Myths — ten common claims and what they actually cost you when you sign.
I wanted to build something different. Real value for the customer. A company where the price matches the cost.
Energy is what powers every hour of your day. Electricity prices are rising across the country. Datacenters are straining our grid. Aging infrastructure needs massive upgrades. That bill is coming to us ratepayers.
I met Patrick, our master electrician of record, at one of the commercial solar companies where I cut my teeth. Between us, we've supported over 100 MW of solar projects across schools, cities, and commercial portfolios. When he signed on, I knew we had a real shot. It's easier to build something hard when you're doing it with a friend.
Our promise to you
Our job is to make the homeowner's math work — and the installer's math work, too. We're building a company where the people who actually do the work are well-paid, respected, and proud of what they build. Happy employees build the highest quality systems. That's not a generic "core value" — it's the business model. No pushy salespeople. No door-knockers. Just affordable, solid solar built by people who give a damn.
How an Honest Solar quote works
Most solar companies spend $3,000–$5,000 per customer on sales and marketing — commissioned reps, door-knockers, call centers, lead buyers. That cost gets buried in your quote. We built a process you control instead. Upload your bill, answer a handful of questions about your roof and your home, and receive a real estimate within 48 hours. No salesperson at your door. No commissioned rep on the line. No call required unless you want one. Every dollar we don't spend chasing you is a dollar off your system.
We won't chase your business. If you come to us, we'll let you move at your own pace. Explore, ask questions, take your time. Patrick handles the electrical. I run the estimates and the installs. Call us at (512) 808-0662 when you're ready to talk.
When you're ready to see the numbers, we're here.
